AIDA ATELIER

 

Biography:

Aida Atelier Tokyo is an architecture firm based in Tokyo, Japan established in 2009 by Tomoro Aida. The Atelier practice in architecture, interior design, product design. Since 2018,  internationally work in collaboration with Italy and Turkey with Ilgin Ezgi Tunc.  Tomoro Aida is principal architect, born in Tokyo. He studied in Tokyo Institute of Technology (B.Eng) in 1998. Than, moved to USA,  graduated from Pratt Institute (B.Arch) in 2001 and Harvard University (M.Arch) in 2003. He worked for Studio LIBESKIND,LLC, New York in 2003. In 2004, he moved back to his own country Tokyo and co-established studioNODE, Inc. Since 2009, he runs his own atelier, and completed various scale and design projects in Japan. 

 

Concept: 

 
“Tsumi Ki bako” is a product design which means “stacking-wood-box” in Japanese. Firstly, It is designed for the Miyakonojo City Library in 2018. (2018 Good Design Award Winner), where achieved 1 million visitors in less than a year and became a new citizen's place in Japan. We developed a bookshelf that allows flexible exhibitions according to the library's plans, which is match with unique design of the library. The large, medium, and small three-sized wooden box can be attached eachother freely by the user with the use of a slit and a wedge joint (design registration pending) opened on the top and bottom. Each box can be used in four ways: shelf, stand, basket, tray simply by changing the direction of the box itself. About 80% of the camphor tree is planted in Kyushu, thats why wooden boxes designed by local wood material `comphor tree`. The finish was made using the characteristic wood pattern of comphor tree. From the various stores including public facilities to various homes, the possibilities are expanded by the user's ingenuity.

Tsumi Kibako 
Box units of `Tsumi Kibako` system. It is flexible design units with three- sized wooden boxes; big, medium, small for creating flexible shelve system. It can be used in four ways: shelf, stand, basket, tray simply by changing the direction of the box itself and can attached eachother with designed wedge joint. The boxes easily can adopt space and use for many purposes for showing and storing, the possibilities are expanded by the user's ingenuity. There are five-optional colors for its separator partition. Brown, avocado, sky, orange, pink.
 
 
 
 
 
 
Tsumi Kibako - Wedge Joint 
Wooden boxes can attach each other in different angles, with using its own slits by special design wedge joint. It is easily can fixed by user without any professional support. It is not just one-time fixed-joint, according to user`s desire wedge joint can be changed its position into wooden box system. Using wedge joint, make the boxes fix in their position and provide safety for users.
