Biography:
ABOUT SPACE is born from the collaboration between the architect Marco Locatelli, and the scenographer Daniele Misani, and realizes itself in works that unite an advanced computational analysis and artisanal working. The artisanal workings and the research on materials lend an intrinsic uniqueness and consitute the cultural roots of ABOUT SPACE, which are reflected in the estetics of the product. The computational analysis, particularly the algorithmic planning, allows to control in an integrated and bijective way the project's parameters, by correlating for instance geometry and performance, allowing flexibility and personalization, while supplying precise data for the digital manufacturing.
Concept:
Ray Light is a luminous and customizable work of art, that can be positioned either on the wall or on the ceiling. Its creative process is regulated through a generative algorithm, which allows to automatically adapt the project to the target space. This way, a strong link is activated between the object and the space in which it is inserted.
The project’s development is described in its phases as follows:
- the fundamental geometric shape is a rectangle, and it is sizable according to the surrounding space;
- the sides of the rectangle are divided in points;
- points belonging to opposite sides of the rectangle are connected through a random function, thus generating lines;
- the lines form bands that intersect, thus creating both full and empty surfaces;
- to each band a color is assigned;
- the intersections of colored bands generate corresponding chromatic compositions.
Ray Light envisages both the direct and the contrasting lightings, scattered lighting in the room.
The work is union between digital manufacturing and artisanal workings, which lends to the product its intrinsic uniqueness.
