Daniele Robbiati

Biography:

Daniele Robbiati is an artist and designer whose creativity draws its inspiration from two different traditions: the glass working tradition learned from his grandfather, a master glass-worker, and the metal working tradition learned from his father, a successful entrepreneur. After getting his high-school diploma, Daniele works at his grandfather’s glass-working company, where he learns all the techniques, the peculiarities and the secrets of glass-working and where he takes an active part in design projects of international importance. A few years later, his natural curiosity pushes him towards a new type of work, completely different from what he has known so far: the industrial working of metal. In this new environment he discovers the characteristics of iron: its malleability and its ductility. Paradoxically, in this new, more structured environment he understands how to better exploit his creativity: he blends together the experiences that have shaped him so far in a perfect sinergy. He thus embarks on a road of experimentation: steel is his canvas, on which he exploits the corrosive power of rust - his creative element. His “drawings” are obtained by playing with the nuances of rust. He then joins the steel sheets in between two sheets of glass, which add elegance and vitality to the work, by exalting the steel’s natural colours and nuances. By putting together the two materials that have marked his working career, Daniele has been able to create a new and unique product. He has developed his design line, which is exhibited at the FuoriSalone 2019.

Concept :

Bend two industrial materials bringing rust into interior furnishings in an artistic, elegant and safe way Daniele uses iron sheets as if these were canvases on which he paints, and he uses the corrosive power of rust in all its nuances. He then places the iron sheets in between two glass sheets, thereby freezing the erosion of the rust in very special, unique moments. Thanks to this art, each and every creation of his is a unique piece. The glass gives the steel elegance, light and vitality, by exalting its colours and nuances.  Thanks to this process, a material like rust is completely taken out of its own environment and turns into a high level design element.

Products:

Rusty Flames
Rustyglass sheet (200x100 cm) characterized by peculiar nuances that resemble open flames warming up the coldness of the materials used. The sheet is supported by a framework which expands in length and opens into two crossbeams.  These are in tubular iron (30x80) with a grinding which creates a “coarse” effect and shows the attention and passion with which the artist models his material.

White sunset
Rustyglass sheet (200x100 cm) with rust spread out so as to reproduce the nuances of a sunset supported by two white clouds. The result is that the sheet seems to be fluctuating in the empty space. The framework is made up of two squares joined by white lacquered tubular iron (70x20).

Autumn Dew
Rustyglass sheet (160x120 cm) with the warm nuances of rust in the background and a stretch of bubbles that look like dew drops on autumn nature. When looking at this harmony, you feel relaxed. The rustyglass sheet is supported by a 50-cm high black lacquered iron cube with a Japanese-style seat.
