Giovanni Barbieri

Biography:

Giovanni Barbieri started his career at the age of 14 by operating in the marble sector and was soon capable of completing floorings independently and collaborating with his older brother’s business with whom he lately entered into a business partnership establishing the F.lli Barbieri company.Driven by his passion and interest in design, Giovanni started to take classes for Interior Design by completing successfully two courses. Having the opportunity to test and apply the new learning in projects developed with the architects teaching the classes.These collaborations enhanced a period of strong progression in which Giovanni was the only developer in charge of the projects and supervising every installation to ensure customers’ satisfaction. Later his focus was laid on the production process of new product collections initially for the local market and expanding all the way to the United States.Thanks to his excellent understanding in design, ongoing research and development of new and innovative trends, which were often protected by industry patents, he reached the most important natural stone tiles surface finishing called “MARMO ANTICO LUCIDO”, “FRAMENTI BORDERS COLLECTION”, “TIMEWORN MARBLE” and the “SERIE STORICA”.Giovanni participated to Contemporary Art Competitions receiving a special mention in Turin in 2003 by presenting some of his exclusive decorative panels created in collaboration with Roberto Lanaro.In 2008 “AMBRA COLLECTION” was awarded in the ‘Architectural Record” magazine which recognized it among one of the 8 best 2008 construction products in USA. AMBRA COLLECTION was exposed at “Triennale Design Museum” in Milan for more than one year. In 2010 Giovanni started his successful collaboration with Sara Baldwin developing Timeworn Mosaics. Engineered 3D Marble Tiles Collections: Exciton/ Hive together the first Porcelain Tile Memento Collections were Honoree and Award Winner on Best Of Year INTERIOR DESIGN USA in 2013.In 2014, the Carved Collection “Clas” on Belgium project was the London Surface Design Award Winner. In 2015, the Murano Collection was the Award Winner at Best Of Year INTERIOR DESIGN, NYC, USA. In 2016 the most advangarde 3D Porcellain Tile Collection “ TRILOGY” was the Award Winner at Best Of Year INTERIOR DESIGN, in USA and New York City Design Award on last May 20th 2017 at MoMa in NYC. In 2017 new partnership started with other European and American 3D walls manufacturer. Giovanni Barbieri design and products were introduced in Australia/New Zealand, India and U.S.A by new selected enthusiast partners. The “Sophisticated Simplicity” was a revolutionary avant-garde system to create sophisticated patterns by simply using standard tiles and obtaining unique aesthetical result. The 2018 Antiqued Tiles Collection genuine reproduced antiqued handmade terracotta tiles, a new black floor developed to offer easy cleaning and maintenance surface due to its timeworn look, suitable not only for traditional houses, but especially for minimalist interior design style which Giovanni Barbieri strongly believe the market needs. The 2019 started with some exciting newness as never happened before.

Concept:

First time in Italy, Giovanni Barbieri celebrates all his international awards and his life dedicated to Tile & Stone Design for floor and wall since 1990. Timeless design as Ambra, Timeworn Mosaics, Murano Collection, Trilogy 3D porcelain and more, will be showcased together with the latest newness as SQUAR and KLE collections in world preview during the same week of Covering Show in Orlando, Florida in parternship with ARTO, Los Angeles.

Products:

The Murano Collection

Breathe new life into historical Italian material such as Umbria, Tuscany, Venetial hand-made terracotta and Murano glass that combined with natural stones create a stunning new collection of decorative slabs featuring a unique dual aestetic result: a 3D surface with grazing light of Murano glass in relief that remains monochrome if not backside illuminated, creating an harmoniuos play of curved surfaces. The backlighting of the slabs highlight the colours and textures effects attainable only with the Murano glass.The Murano collection offers an utterly unique aestetic available in infinitive variety of colours, patterns and dimensions.

Kle Collection

The collection is available in two different variations, 12”x 12” x 3/8 tiles shapes:

- Can be installed with a random / inverted pattern

- Available colors: warm minimalist as in the Great White colour example or vivid, contemporary multi colors - 3 Grey nuances pattern, for an elegant, minimalist look

- Handmade doublefired, hand painted ceramic tiles made by ARTO in California

- Customizable colors, larger or smaller sizes are also available upon request

- Suitable for interiors / exteriors residential /commercial.

SQUAR Collection

For the first time, a tile collection making it possible to seamlessly go from a flat to a fully three-dimensional texture and from squared, regular shapes to a random pattern of shapes and colours. All the transitions can be customized to your unique taste. SQUAR won the ‘Honoree Award’ at last INTERIOR DESIGN USA Best of Year 2018 .

Trilogy

TRILOGY BY GIOVANNI BARBIERI IS A REALLY UNIQUE PRODUCT WITH THE FOLLOWING CHARACTERISTICS:

• The first three-dimensional porcelain tile in the world with almost 5 cm of depth in a hexagon of side 15 cm: the sides change in thickness from 0.8 to 4.5 cm in the space of 30 cm which is the maximum width of each tile.

• This is also the first composition where a regular hexagonal shape, easy to lay, simultaneously obtains irregular shapes thanks to two different widths of joints that are generated during simple laying.

• The trendy combination of the 3 different textures applied on 3 different color tones, in 3

• different applications, on 3 different models that only need a casual pose, gets a really unique aesthetic result that only Barbieri could develop.

• The 3 models allow to obtain linear or totally random compositions with irregular shapes.

• Individual customized solutions, even for a single project, are possible thanks to the assistance of Studio Barbieri.

Solid mosaic

A simulation of 2” x 2” section/solid marble saw cut honed strips hand-brockened, showing natural split faces alternatively .Effectively is just 1 cm thickness strips interlock panels mosaic on netProduced in Engineered Marble through a laboratory tested process,by reciclyng marble dust from the production waste refuse thus faithfully reproducing theTravertine and Natural Stone.Suitable for any installation/extreme climate condition evenwhere Natural Stone is not suggested.No maintenance.
