Biography:
Grrreenware crafts the architectures of natural systems into fanciful objects of sustainability. A ceramic artist, she creates living furniture and tableware which prioritize clay as a material versus a medium. Recognizing commercial clay as a product of the industrial fracking industry, her practice demands innovative molding devised for less workable dug and recycled clays. Her modular bathtub systems direct greywater as it is created into living plant understructures, illuminating the direct effect products and water usage habits have on the ecosystems inevitably affected. As Grrreenware expands, a number of greywater recycling works will operate as a landless farm, dotting locations everywhere rather than anywhere. A luxurious network of sculptural urban farming plots inviting ecosystem enthusiasm. Her bathtubs and soup bowls alike stand on points off the ground, as ascending idyllic futures.
— Pratt Frameworks produces custom handmade bicycles that integrate beauty and efficiency. Large companies in the bicycle industry often encourage disposability as a means to sell innovation. This waste created is not sustainable. Small scale production, and accountable manufacturing are key to our architecture. We have built a network of small businesses in the US, Italy, and Japan, and all of our sponsors are innovators in the field. Our partnerships bolster each other's economies, and build close relationships between designers, makers, and customers. This is the ideal future for design; a connected community that encourages entrepreneurship and small ventures.
Concept:
The Grrreenware X Pratt Frameworks collaboration microgreen dining table is a bold statement object, asserting itself in the room. A necessary object that typically takes up a lot of space now has a dual function. Our challenge was to find used space to use again, and bring food production into the home. We are aware that our growing population will have increasingly higher demands for fresh produce. Some of our most fertile lands on earth have been depleted by irresponsible practices and development. We see engaging with biology in the home sphere as an act of rebellion. Advocacy for just climate futures, transparency in our food system, and accessible nutrients in built environments. Microgreens have a high space to nutrient ratio. We see smart joinery as the link between manufacturing processes, materials, and the means of creating something productive out of disparate parts. Joinery allows an object to set down, set up, and adapt to expand its lifetime. Thus demanding less material expended overall. Our emphasis is on additive production. Both our ceramic module and 3D printed parts were made this way with little to no waste. The Grrreenware X Pratt Frameworks collaboration epitomizes sustainability as a luxurious feature, thus shifting from compromise to stature.
