Biography:

NOTHING is a collective of designers founded by Caroline Kable, Peter Lokken and Hayoung Lee. Together they combine their unique interests to create sculptural, functional and decorative objects inspired by and utilizing natural components. Their process involves deep inquiry into disparate materials, resulting in new techniques and aesthetic qualities. Pulling from diverse backgrounds in interior design, fabrication, environmental architecture, engineering and biology, the trio create well-considered and well-made one of a kind contemporary pieces that celebrate biophilia. They make each piece by hand in their studio in Brooklyn, NY.

Fabrazzo

Inspired by Terrazzo, ‘Fabrazzo’— a compound word of fabric and terrazzo— is a series of upcycled paper tiles made with discarded fabric scraps.For better environmental value while considering a lightweight, affordable and aesthetic home decor product, paper pulp and reclaimed fabric scraps from a local recycling center are used to substitute for material components of Terrazzo. Those collected materials are well ground and blended together to naturally create unique speckled texture.

Amber ‘Amber’—a series of transparent, glowing objects inspired by amber fossils—is a time capturing art that further evolve into functional sculptures. The motif has emerged from the practice of assimilating my making process with natural formation process of amber fossils that both naturally occur, trap moments, and preserve past memories transcending time and space. Likewise, ‘Amber’ objects with natural and organic form has been created through mirroring natural production, for instance, it employs epoxy resin in an alternative use of natural resin to conjure properties of amber which can trap and crystalize temporary moments.
