Biography

Elisabetta Di Bucchianico (born in Pescara) and Dario Oggiano (born in Roma), were born both in 1975. In 2003 they graduated in Industrial Design at the degree course of Design and Arts, IUAV University of Venice. In 2004 they founded L’Officina delle Invenzioni (The Workshop of Inventions) and deposited the brand Arago Design.

Since 2005, until 2010, they have been teaching at the degree course of Industrial Design at the University of the Republic of San Marino - IUAV University of Venice, also collaborating with designers such as Aldo Cibic and Marco Ferreri.

In 2011 Arago Design took part to the 54ma Biennale d’Arte di Venezia inside Abruzzo Region and Piemonte region Pavillions; in 2008, 2010, 2012, 2014 and 2016, Arago Design was also exhibitor at Argillà Italia, International Biennale of Ceramics (Faenza). In 2016 and 2017 some products by Arago Design have been selected by Open Design Italia and exibited at the ICC of Budapest, Berlin and Malta as representative examples of contemporary design.

Since 2013 they are art directors of the MUSA Project (Mater Universalis Signorum Aprutii) a planning workshop aimed to the design of commercial products in various materials retrieving processing, raw materials and iconography of the textile culture of Abruzzo, the region where they live and work. The MUSA project is inspired by the myth of the ovine muse, fascinating mythological animal immortalized in a mysterious photo of the end '800, which here takes the role of metaphorical and poetic universal and incontrovertible link between the "artificial beauty" and the natural relationship generally underestimated which, in this case, is strongly tipped by placing the origin of everything in Nature.

Since 2015 they are art directors of SPAZIOARDE. In one of the most evocative rooms of old Pescara's Bourbon fort, SPAZIOARDE (crafts and design) offers a vision of design paths that lead to the realization of the most interesting craftsmanship productions and contemporary design. SPAZIOARDE was born from the desire to connect the traditional know-how with the creative logic and the desires of our time.

WHAT’S ARAGO DESIGN?

Arago Design is the brand which identifies the objects designed and produced by Elisabetta Di Bucchianico e Dario Oggiano, earlier at the Officina delle Invenzioni, then at SPAZIOARDE, in Pescara, Italy.

Their research is founded on the co-existence of two different operating places, generally conceived as antithetical. The design studio and the craft workshop. The symbiosis that becomes established between these two worlds is the key that sets solutions which are original on the technical side as on the conceptual one. arago design is the joint label of two designers who use to ask themselves many questions, feeling they have great responsibilities.

The natural consequence is a number of objects endowed with multiple personality.

PRODUCTION

Arago Design product originates from the encounter between two design concepts. On one hand, the possible paths are identified on the basis of rules which are shared with business logics, such as rationalization of constructive processes and observation of marketing tendencies. On the other hand, concepts such as the awareness of environmental impact, deriving from the transformations of material and the sense of responsibility in relation with the history of constructing, starts a philosophical thought on the sense of design and about the identity of the designer. Such care set the distinctive character of production. It is never explicit which one of these paths has more weight in the definition of an Arago Design product and these two aspects that intersects and entwine, never excluding each other, always guarantee an original, dense and anomalous design.
