In December 2010 ended the construction of the new passenger terminal at the Lido of Venice designed by architects Luca Gasparini and Pierre Fugali. The new structure, with a waterfront of about 150 meters, is divided into a series of fragmented elements and alternating between empty and full as possible to allow the transparency of the structure. Are located on the waterfront, the three cabins for passengers waiting to be connected by bus shelters to the shore and toward the yard. The heart of the terminal is represented by a square pool, open to the lagoon and into the square S. Mary Elizabeth at the visual axis pointing to the Marciana area, bounded on the other two sides by commercial spaces and spaces for the ticket and information center / events. This is the strongest and most recognizable sign, especially for those arriving by water, but an architectural element of size proportionate to the context. At the beach two design themes were addressed: not only the reorganization and rationalization of the terminal itself, but also the upgrading and enhancement of the square of St. M. Elizabeth to return to the square itself a worthy-facing basin S. Marco from the situation prior to the work.
