Wai is an industrial product designer that combines in his projects combines ancient geometry with modern techniques, such as aerodynamics and ergonomics.
He thinks that he can be somehow represented by a Chinese motto: ‘a calf would not be scared by tigers’. This means that a new-born animal will not fear challenges and will explore the world with curiosity without assumptions, which I believe is a key attribute in a great designer.
Here we present some of his new products developed according to a very innovative and highly aesthetic approach.
Wave is a coffee table made by a bended piece of stripped plywood with a piece of glass supporting. It is then highlighted with 6 stripes of silicone bands. The silicone bands are decorative and also functional allowing for example, a magazines or a CD to stand.
Sharing the same concept with the Wave, Uphill is a coffee table made by painted metal strips. The strips and the supporting frames can be used as CD stands on the corners. Moreover, the peaks underneath can be used as a magazine stand.
The Gravity set is inspired by vintage pedestal plant stand. An upside-down hexagonal pyramid on the top is held by wires with a grid underneath, forming a scenario of gravitational time dilation. With a hexagonal surface, people sit inclined so it allows better interactions between users with more eye contact; with the grid underneath, users can use it as small storage space.
