We had the pleasure to interview Caroline Ficker, Brazilian architect and designer that participated in Din - Design In 2017. Her project is called ION and constitutes luminaires carefully crafted from noble materials such as wood, onyx, marble, acrylic and glass. The pieces are formed from triangular modules, which when grouped, make up incredible shapes. The brand features its own line, with pendants and floor lamps, but also meets custom orders, developing exclusive designs for both residential and commercial areas, in different scales. ION’s proposal, is to produce luminaires that transcend its function, creating true sculptures of light.
-Hi Caroline! So happy to meet you again! First of all we would like to know something about you. Tell us how and why you became a designer.
As an architect I always thought about designing special pieces that would bring a nice touch to my clients projects. Until one day, when decided to create my own line of furniture, starting with luminaries.
-What are you doing now? Are you working on a specific product?
I still work as an architect and as a designer.
Now I am working on a special line of products that are going to be sold in Europe.
-In 2017 you have participated in the event Din - Design In organized by Promotedesign.it during the Milan Design Week: was it your first time in Milano?
It was my first time exposing a design product in Milan.
-How would you describe the Lambrate area?
It’s an innovative area, very dynamic.
-Can you tell us something about you experience at Din - Design In?
It is an amazing experience to show your designs to the European market and to expand your network.
-Was it worth it? Would you like to do it again?
For sure! It was amazing also because one of my contacts lead to an amazing collaboration with an Italian company that was also exposing and we decided to produce some pieces together.
It was such a great experience that I will expose again in 2018, already showing my designs made in Italy.
-Would you recommend this experience to another designer?
Sure I would! It is always important to show your work and to have a feedback as well as contacting others that are in the same boat as you and can help you see things differently.
