The Shimmer Collection

Designer Erica Tanov and Clé Tile

Who says tile can’t have movement? The Shimmer Collection is Clé tile’s latest collaboration with bay area clothing and lifestyle designer, Erica Tanov. The collection of wall-mounted brass sequins is available in two sizes: a small brass sequin and a large brass sequin. Made of American brass and fabricated in northern California, each tile comes with installation instructions along with a brass nail and spacer to set the sequin apart from the wall. Once mounted, the tile is transformative creating a shimmering surface that glistens when hit by light.

”Unlike the rest of the world, so many people in the US think of tile as a sanitary finish.  For me however, tile is anything that can elevate a surface. With our second collaboration with Erica, we have further expanded the reach and vision of tile taking it to a new level of sophistication unlike anything on the market.” - Deborah Osburn, CEO and founder of Clé. A magnificent brass sequin wall has been the focal point of Erica Tanov’s Marin store, ever since it opened in 2010. Inspired by a brass paillette from a favorite pouch of hers, architect Douglas Burnham of Envelope A+D brought the idea to life, designing a system of nested brass ovals to create a shimmering, sparkling architectural surface.

The brass sequins' brilliant, glittering effect was created to echo the sparkling bay that Erica would witness on her drive to and from her Marin store. Crossing the San Rafael bridge, the late morning light would hit the water just right, creating a moment of magic--the sunlight sparkling on the surface.

“I am extremely excited to collaborate with Clé Tile on this rare and glamorous collection,” says designer Erica Tanov. “With these brass sequins, we intended to bring a luxurious touch to any interior setting––a textual surface that can be applied minimally or with true decadence. As with most of my designs, from clothing and accessories to furnishings and wallpaper, inspiration takes root from my deep love of nature. The shimmer collection beautifully captures my appreciation of the relationship between sunlight and water––how light dances upon the surface of the bay creating a magical, sparkling moment.”
