Budri presents the new "Fragment" collection

Designed by Gwenael Nicolas - Curiosity Tokyo

A hymn to the "lightness" of marble thanks to the innovativeBudri Slim Marble ™

Budri - leading company on the international scene for its experience in high-end and bespoke projects in marble and stone. presented during the upcoming Milano Design Week, the new Fragment Collection.

Furniture and surfaces with a sustainable soul, designed by designer Gwenael Nicolas - Curiosity Tokyo, also designer of the Marmor Natvm Collection, presented by Budri in 2019.

The collection stems from Budri's continuous and constant research, aimed at studying design solutions for marble surfaces and furnishings, with particular attention to sustainability.

A long journey started in 2010 by the Research & Development division - with important collaborations with fashion and high jewelery brands - today Budri reaches its apex in the study of new technologies, processing techniques and innovative composites capable of safeguarding the  value of the noble material.

"The word" sustainability "is rich in meaning, all the more so when you have to work such a prestigious material, which has evolved for millions of years, acquiring more value day by day. Sustainability in an absolute sense does not exist. However, a thorough process that combines research and awareness gradually leads to a more sustainable approach "says Alessandra Malagoli Budri - Art Director of the Company.

Fragment - the name itself - tells its essence.

In fact, it was born from the idea of reusing thin fragments of different widths and lengths and thickness from mosaic rods as well as from slabs deriving from the manufacturing process. Juxtaposed and merged with a component, patented by the company,  that makes them extremely resistant, they form longitudinal and horizontal patterns of monochromatic or multicolored shades.

The collection combines color variations in shades of white and grey and a  multicolor version with a “fabric effect”.

Among the white marbles: Bianco Thassos, Bianco Sivec, Bianco Statuario, Bianco Zebrino, Calacatta Fox, Striato Olimpico and many others.

Among the materials of the polychrome variant: Lapis Lazuli, Azul Boquira, Verde Lapponia, Rosso Rupas, Giallo Siena, Quarzite Verde.

"Like the Japanese Mikado - the game that is characterized by its colored sticks - Fragment is a" free fall of color "combined with the rigor of shapes, typical of Japanese creativity. A four-handed work of the designer and the company that allows to revive 'sleeping' materials combined with the luxury of lightness ".

This innovative technology is called BUDRI S L I M MARBLE ™, acronym for SUSTAINABLE LIGHT INNOVATIVE MARBLE, which will be applied for the first time to a collection of furnishings, accessories and surfaces.

Fragment represents a revolution in the field of stone processing, both for planning in the industrial design sector, giving numerous creative possibilities.

"Lightness, flexibility and sustainability are, in fact, three words that would never have been associated with marble. Today, however, this becomes possible. The beauty, the expressive and pictorial soul of marble, is kept intact

The strong reduction of the weight consequently reduces its excavation and the impact on the environment "adds Alessandra Malagoli Budri.

In the past we were used to associate to marble its weight in terms of tons and quintals. Today, thanks to Budri’s research, we can speak about kg and even grams. The weight per sqm2 for a thickness of 2 cm (typical thickness in design and architecture) is 60 kg, while the new BUDRI SLIM MARBLE ™ weighs 12 kg per sqm2, reducing its weight by 80%.

Transforming marble into a 2 or 3 mm "fabric" means being able to create without limits and at the same time preserve ecosystems and geomorphological balance all over the world: a double luxury.

The Fragment Collection includes two rectangular Living Tables, both made of rods in white or polychrome shades. The patterns feature a white color block pattern that contrasts with the surrounding  striped surface. The elegant table legs in mirror metal further embellish the precious table top. The six Coffee and Side Tables, of different sizes and heights, can be matched with each other. One triptych is made up of white and grey marbles while the otheris made with  green and blue marbles to underline the green soul of the project.

The coffee table’s feet are made up of four coupled slabs of different materials.

A self-supporting polychrome surface flows into a console whose top and leg are made of mirror metal, creating a surprising graphic continuity.

Two cylindrical vases and a Floor Lamp, made of colorful  of different heights and thicknesses, complete the collection.

Majestic and of great scenic effect also the Chandelier made up of floating, very thin rods of white marbles, that remains suspended with surprising lightness above the long living table.

The large Mikado masterpiece wall cladding in Nero Marquina marble represents an explosion of colored “Mikado” sticks of different thickness.

BUDRI SLIM MARBLE ™ can be used not only for the creation of furnishings and accessories but also for surfaces as floors, coverings and ceilings.

Thanks to the low weight material and to a further advanced technology developed by the company: the BUDRI SLIM SYSTEM ™, designed especially for the contract and retail division, its debut in autumn will represent a revolution in the use of marble in achitecture.
