Luce Orizzontale di Ronan & Erwan Bouroullec e To-Tie di Guglielmo Poletti

The poetry of glass is the focus of the two Flos Decorative light creations selected by the ADI Permanent Design Observatory in the 'Design for Lighting' category. Celebrated at the ADI Design Index collective exhibition in Milan and Rome, they will be nominated for the next edition of the Compasso d'Oro awards.

Luce Orizzontale, the sculptural modular suspension lamp designed by Ronan & Erwan Bouroullec, and To-Tie, the elegant and minimal light family created by Guglielmo Poletti, both for Flos, enter the prestigious ADI Design Index 2023, the yearbook of the best Italian designs produced the previous year, thereby earning a well-deserved nomination for the 2024 edition of the famous ADI Compasso d'Oro award.

After the success of Belt, the suspension lamp by Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec that received the Compasso d'Oro 2022, and the inclusion of WireLine by Formafantasma and In Vitro by Philippe Starck in the previous edition of the ADI Design Index, once again the ADI Permanent Design Observatory recognises Flos products as an expression of the best Italian design, adding a new chapter to the long history of recognition obtained by the brand over the years.

Luce Orizzontale by Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec is a sculptural suspension lamp characterised by fine craftsmanship. Its design revolves around the unusual effect of the light reflected by cast glass elements. Each cylinder is handmade by pouring glass into a mould, making each element unique thanks to the individual signs that form within each one.

Conceived as a modular suspension lamp, the Luce Orizzontale range includes three configurations of 8, 10 or 12 cast glass cylinders, suspended and interconnected to form structures of different lengths. The glass cylinders rest on a polished primary aluminium bar that provides the supporting axis for the lamp and within which the light sources are inserted (one LED strip emits light upwards and one downwards). The touch dimmer, compatible with the Dali and Push Dim systems, is positioned at one end of the bar.

A true celebration of minimalism, To-Tie by Gugliemo Poletti is a table lamp featuring an essential and apparently simple design. Its ingenious structure allows it to perform multiple functions. The light source is integrated into an anodised aluminium bar, which not only emits the light but also acts as a handle for lifting and moving the lamp. Likewise, the fabric electric cable, in addition to powering the light source, also fixes the bar to the cylinder via mechanical tension. Made of borosilicate glass and available in three possible heights and two different diameters, this unique cylinder captures light and magically holds it inside, highlighting the extreme geometric simplicity of the project.

The attention to detail and refinement of each component make To-Tie a precious object, a poetic presence in the space even when turned off. The collection is made up of three models which differ in size and proportions depending on the context they are intended for, and available in two anodized finishes, in colours chosen by Poletti to maximise the purity of the design: black and natural.
As per tradition, Luce Orizzontale and To-Tie will be on display from 6 to 19 November 2023 at the ADI Design Museum in Milan, and from 27 November to 2 December in Rome at the WeGil cultural space, together with the other objects selected to testify the excellence of 'Made in Italy'.
