The project, born from two questions in two different threads:
Why a person with mobility impairments cannot do some jobs , for example, the tour guide?
Why is it so difficult to get information about monuments for a genuinely curious "do it yourself" tourists if he is outside of circuits or organized groups?
Based on these questions comes the project Remote Guide, which seeks precisely to find a possible solution that responds to both questions.
The operating principle is very simple: The tourist fits with the smartphone the monument of interest, an application (there are several outstanding, usually for the recognition of faces, but it should not be difficult to fit the specific need. Alternatively you can place QR codes in strategic positions that can give the desired information) recognizes the monument and contact the server via WiFi (if present on site, otherwise a data connection is needed) which in turn shall contact the tourist with a guide online, which, based on shots taken by the tourists themselves, provide all information requested.
This will allow tourists to have access to a guide at any time - just to have subscribed to the service and have downloaded and installed the application you need - and will allow qualified people, but with limited mobility to work as tourist guides without having to overcome obstacles that are often insurmountable .
With Remote Guide will also work at home, with comments and explanations targeted, based on the same shots of tourists who can also choose what they want to be explanated.
Otherwise and with the same contact details, an information service provided the most basic and not customized information by creating a portal that encompasses information on selected monuments.
In this case, reading the code will automatically opens your browser and will direct you to the page of the monument in the portal itself.
It should be simple and inexpensive, integrated with countless services (personal shopper, culinary guide, help desk and so on) and really affordable for anyone.
A tourist will need only of a smartphone or tablet with a video camera and a wireless Internet connection.
