The more we go on designing with digital systems, the more digitalism becomes our daily surrounding.
QUBRIK chair was born just like all my other projects following this digital life criteria.
Here i wanted to make a mesh come to life,in times where the word contract didn't even exist.
The task was to design a iconic stackable plastic chair.Fascinated by chair one designed by Grcic and polychair by Karim Rashid i felt as if there were too many holes in the chair one and none in the polychair other than overpricing being pure design and materials.
So on,to engineer something that would keep prices low i felt i had to stick to standard injections rather than cut and thermoformed surfaces like Grcic's chair, opting for Poliethilene rather than Nylon for the standard line.
I actually created something far more functonal than i would have thought at the start.
It is clear how much more structure the object gained + mechanical resistence.
I added lots of folds in order to achieve a stronger overall atomic structure.
The chair with broken legs didn't risk ruptures anymore of any sort under any weight, the project was followed by a very experienced mechanical engineer,Dr. Franzaldo Di Paolo.
Thanks to his expertise the chair needed no nerves underneath, the amount of folds made it far more structural than needed.
