A new company was created to research software applications in the field of automotive, domestic and industrial applications. This R&D facility is the new headquarter for CIAO LAB situated on the technological campus of Bull Pregnana. The program called for isolated computer and testing areas, classic laboratory spaces, demo areasandgeneralopenplanofficespaces. In order to house these activities, an existing building was selected and completely renovated. As often is the case, a corporate image had to be created, in this instance it was entirely from inception since the company was a start up. Our objective was to create an environment that spoke of innovation and fresh thinking; light and simplicity; communication and encounter. The design focused on the creation of functional elements (storage, meeting rooms, demo facilities) that unified spaces on two levels and in two wings. The “link” became the main encounter space for the center, a business lounge immersed in the green. The building’s systems were exposed; the structure left “bare” and finishes were inexpensive and used where function or contact made it necessary.
