REBIRTHING n°1|2|3|4. Rebirthing is a project made up of four lamps in ceramic dust and quick cement. The Post-Industrial era has witnessed a return to handcrafted work. My aim was thus to create objects through the use of industrial packagings. Moulds available on any supermarket shelf. In Italy, the co-operation between the designer and the factory is an issue that has been dealt with for many years. My creative approach to the topic originated especially from an economic problem, due to the high cost of moulds for the production of ordinary, everyday objects. The idea that an object can be born from something already existing, built in concrete, rests on the recovery of tools close at hand, ordinary items surrounding us, having a short lifecycle and often passing through our hands without being properly considered in their potential. The Rebirthing project gives life to a series of objects born in times of excessive consumerism, its subsequent crisis and the ephemeral nature of its matrix/roots. Being put together according to the formal instinct and to a defined aestethics of the moulds, Rebirthing can take form, moving from recalls to the past to contemporary and futuristic shapes. They could be explicative or mysterious objects, meanwhile, though, they declare their origins by showing some recognizable signs of mass production, like for instance art 442, made in italy 17, fork and glass or the triangle recycle symbol 06 PS. My attention has focused on energy saving, as in an empty supermarket in times of crisis: the slow-motion of objects capable of generating others, being captured, observed and re-used in a process which is not material recycling but a symbolic and functional recovery of the object itself.
